Kierra Bulter, LGPC

My clients are able to meet their therapeutic goals because together, we develop a trusted therapeutic relationship, set concrete therapeutic goals, and develop a treatment plan to promote measurable progress and change. I specialize in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of depression, anxiety, OCD and PTSD within the context of relational trauma; family-of-origin issues; self-esteem; parent-child relationship difficulties; adjustments to family and life; anger/irritability; pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum experiences; relationship difficulties; codependency; workplace or school/academic stress and emotion regulation concerns.

I work with both children and adults. Therapy with me consists of an initial intake evaluation, a treatment planning session to define clear measurable goals followed by a combination of individual or family therapy sessions.

My approach to healing emphasizes the whole person, rather than a specific behavior, thought or emotion, always honoring the importance of the relationship between you and me. I draw upon Interpersonal Therapy, Integrative Therapy, Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness based treatments, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Emotion Focused Therapy among others.  Further, I help clients identify the changes they want to make and activate new behaviors with caring, understanding and honest reflection. I focus on identifying and leveraging clients' strengths and utilizing positive reinforcement for engagement in treatment and accomplishment of goals. Therapy with me is a supportive space to identify measurable and practical approaches to addressing emotions, behavioral patterns and cognitive errors. With warmth, humor and a direct style, I help individuals find their own strengths, understand their challenges with compassion, and use this knowledge to improve behaviors, mood, cognition, school, career, relationships and daily activities.

I am licensed by the Maryland Board of Counselors and Therapist as a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor and received my Master of Arts in CLinical Mental Health Counseling from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. As a clinical supervisee, I've worked in a number of clinical settings and I understand that therapy is effective yet arduous, and I work with clients to develop and maintain motivation through the process.
